Dying cotton yarn?

I'd like some tips, please, on dying cotton yarn.

I just bought a 690 yard cone of Peaches and Creme and want to use some of it for my bathroom and kitchen.I basically just want to dye it a very deep purple to match everything I already have.

I read you can't use Kool-Aid because it will only stain cotton, not really dye it. Will Rit or Dylon work?
