two strand knitting
 

if i'm going to be knitting using two strands i assume i just cast on with two as i normally would and carry on as normal only using two strands at a time instead of the one. true?

Yep, just treat it as a single strand, but make sure your needles go through both strands when you knit a st and both are wrapped around the needle as you make it.
