How do I create a fold?

I want to make a fold-over cuff on mittens and want to create a natural fold to the cuff. What is the best way to do that? Can anyone help? Thank you!

Usually just switching from ribbing to stockinette will make it fold naturally.

If you're working in stockinette you can also do one row of purl and then continue in stockinette and it'll naturally fold at the purl row. I think..

usually the outside of the glove is stochinette stitch. Now you do a transition to ribbing for the cuff. That part shall fold over?
Or will there be ribbing underneath the folded cuff, too?

you can use either methods above or you can also make several rows of wrong side or reversed stochinette to create the fold.

If you have ribbing underneath the folded cuff AND in the folded cuff, then you should definately make a few rounds of reversed stochinette (knit it so the smooth side is inside the tube you knit (when working in the round: several rounds of purls). Then you will have a smooth rim where it folds.

since st st is wider in gauge than ribbing you may need to decrease a few stitches for that section and increase them again after or you have an "overboarding" rim - which may be nice and would look great in contrast color as well.
