Back Hand Sts

Can someone explain what Back Hand Sts are? I am knitting pop-up mittens and have no idea what this stitch is.

The sts for the back of the hand, maybe? Do you have a link to the pattern or can you post just a few rows that mention them (not the whole pattern, please).
