Help with a blanket - putting on a backing
Hi all. I'm making this big ol' knitted blanket - link below if you want to check it out. I've made a few adjustments in the colors and am not knitting it in squares, but rather doing intarsia style, with some duplicate stitching for some of the details and so forth. It's been a lot of work with up to 12 balls of yarn on at a time. (Certainly not a project that's easy to carry around).

On to the question. The duplicate stitching makes the wrong side a little messy, so I'm thinking about putting a backing on it, maybe even some batting, but I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Any words of wisdom for me? It's a big blanket, probably about 4' x 5'.

Thanks in advance!

Knitting stretches and fabric doesn't so it does seem problematic. Especially since you made it in one piece. If it had been squares I think the edges would be firmer..

Maybe if you tied it down every so often like some quilts do?
