advice/help on purple/green scarf
 

So I've been perusing pattern websites like crazy the past few days, trying to find a good scarf pattern that would work well with mixing purple and green (purple is a lavender, pastel light purple and the green is a forest, darker green.. I might add black or gray to balance the colors).

Anyone have any favorite multiple colored scarf patterns or recommendations? I've done plenty, but I want to do more than a "stripes in the round" type of thing, ya know? Please and thank you! :)

One thing that looks really cool is stripes within stripes. You'd knit 4 rows of Color A, two rows of Color B, 2 rows of Color A, 2 rows of Color B, and 4 rows of Color A for instance. It's smaller stripes inside a larger one. You could make the smaller stripes one row if you wish. I'll also use a fair isle technique where I alternate two colors with a white yarn. It's hard to describe, but I would chart it like this:

AAAAAAAA
AWAWAWA
WAWAWAW
AWAWAWA
WAWAWAW
AAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAA
(Here you can switch to color B or put a dividing line of two rows of black before beginning B).

WBWBWBW
BWBWBWB
WBWBWBW
BBBBBBBBB

Here's a scarf that uses two or more colors in a zig-zag pattern. It folds in half for extra warmth and hides the color changes.

sweet! i ended up discovering entrelac (which i had never heard of before) and decided to do that.... im about to make a wip thread :) i think im pulling it off haha

You could also try something like this:

Divide the numbers of rows by 5. Using 2 strands of yarn, do the following:

First section - use 2 strands of color A
2nd section - use 1 strand of A and 1 strand of B
3rd section - use 2 strands of B
4th section - use 1 strand of A and 1 strand of B
5th section - use 2 strands of A

This creates a design with the 2 colors blending together and back again.
