decrease while ribbing?

I have created a pattern for a baby cocoon in my mind and it is perfect except for one flaw: when I decrease, won't that mess up the ribbing? any help at all is much appreciated!:knitting: :??

If you have a k2, p2 rib you can dec in every other purl rib first, some would be k2, p2, k2, p1; the next dec can be in the other purl rib a you go to k2, p1, k2, p1. On the next set of decs do every other knit rib (or every one, depends on how frequently you want to dec) and you'd have k2 p1 k1 p1 or k1 p1 rib all around. By the time you get there, shouldn't be too many rounds left so you can just k2tog all around.

wait! um... I'm not sure if I understood that. Does this mean that I just decrease normally every second purl set using p2tog?

Yes, if you're decreasing in a purl rib, do p2tog.
