Im working on a cable bag pattern with charts. I dont understand it. The designer said that the WS rows sts are worked as they appear. Does anyone know how to do this? I've never seen a pattern written like this. Can anyone help me with this?? Any help at all I would be so greatful

I think the saying is, if it looks like a knit st. on the back, then knit it. If it looks like a purl then you should purl it.

By knitting as they appear it means to purl the purl stitches and knit the knit stitches as they appear as they face you. This means the side you are working on.

If you don't know already one of the most important things you can learn is to read your knitting. Learn what knit and purl stitches look like. If you already know then you're good to go.

So this means that if the st is a knit while your looking at it from the ws row then you knit it, and the same with the purl st right? Im afraid to start this project until I completely clear on what to do!

Yes, that's right. The back of a knit stitch is a purl and the back of a purl is a knit. So for stockinette stitch when you knit a whole row of sts and turn they look like purls and you purl them all. But you don't try to keep track of what you did to them on the previous row, just knit them how they look on this row. There's some videos and pictures in this thread that may be useful to you.
