button band

Hi: I'm knitting the February Lady Sweater and using three 1 inch buttons at the top which is knit in garter st. My question is, should I reinforce the back side of the button, i.e., use grosgrain ribbon, to stabilize the large buttons?
:knitting:
Thanks! Teresab

You can, do what you feel works better. Try it and see.

Sometimes I've also used a smaller clear plastic button on the back to reinforce a larger button. I think the thing to watch is that the button is not too heavy for the knitted fabric. If it pulls on the buttonband, it looks terrible.
