Desperate help with Sublime pattern

Hi all,

I need some serious help with this pattern. I'm knitting the Nancy/Nadia cardigan from the Sublime #650 booklet. I'm knitting the 2nd size so the pattern is a little different. It's a cardigan with a diamond shape pattern. I was able to finished the back and now I'm starting to do the sleeve but I don't know if it's me or what but the instructions do not continue in the diamond pattern. Sublime doesn't seem to have a website of their booklets or I can't seem to find any errata for the pattern on the Internet.

If someone could help me out, I could send you a copy of the pattern for you to look at. The pattern repeats every 32 rows so it would take me forever to type it all out.

Thank you,
Joy

I'm knitting the Nancy/Nadia cardigan from the Sublime #650 booklet.
*Is there a photo? Do the sleeves look like they have a diamond pattern in the photo? If so, does it look the same size as on the body of the sweater or is it different?

I don't know if it's me or what but the instructions do not continue in the diamond pattern.
*You have compared the back and sleeve patterns side by side and they are different? Could it be that the sleeve pattern is proportionately smaller, thus making the pattern seem different, but it will still create a diamond in the end?

If someone could help me out, I could send you a copy of the pattern for you to look at. The pattern repeats every 32 rows so it would take me forever to type it all out.
*Unless someone happens to have this booklet, you will likely need to find a way to post some of the pattern lines here to get further assistance.

***The pattern on the sleeves look the same with the same size

***The pattern for the back consists of the 32 rows to make the diamond pattern. The four lines of the pattern for the sleeve are the same as the first four rows of the back pattern. The difference in the pattern is for the sleeve row 1 and row 2, it wants you to cast on 16 stitches at the end of the row. The pattern calls for 64 rows for the sleeves to complete

*** I could scan part of the pattern and attach to the thread

Are the sleeves knit separately and then attached? They look like they're just cast onto the front or back so that you have continuous pieces. I would compare the pattern that forms the diamonds (yo's and knits and purls) on the sleeve to the fronts or the back and see if the basic patterns agree. If so, it may be just a matter of spacing the diamond in the correct place.

The sleeves are knit as part of the back, that's why you cast on 16 sts. So you'll have the back pattern, then work the first row of the sleeve pattern and CO 16 sts. Then work the next row across all the sts and CO 16 sts for the other sleeve. Same for the front, then you likely seam the shoulders and the front and back of the sleeves at the top and underarm. That should work out right, though it may not look like it until you get several rows of the pattern worked. And it could be that the first few rows of the sleeve pattern are not in pattern so they can be seamed at the lower edges.

Salmonmac,
Thanks for the photo link

Suzeeq,
I agree.

dcinfo,
Yes the pattern is 32 rows tall, but it should only be so many sts wide. When you CO the 16 additional sts at each end/side for the sleeves they should blend into the st repeat across the entire row.

Here's a picture of the back

Let me see if I understand this.
I finish the back pattern which I did and it looks right.
I work the sleeve pattern as stated and CO 16 sts and the end of the row. I work the second row and CO 16 sts and the end of that row. You think this should line up the pattern correctly? What's the best way to cast on after I finish knitting the pattern?

suzeeq 05-29-2012 05:37 PM

A better cast on is the knit or loose cable CO which can be done at the beginning of a row; end or beg, they're the same thing. And yes it'll work out fine, just try it

salmonmac 05-29-2012 06:32 PM

The patterns should line up correctly but if not, follow the pattern row for the back. You should be on the same pattern row for the sleeves so that the patterns line up across the back. The very beginning of the pattern won't matter since it wil become part of the sleeve seam. So follow the pattern row as set up on the main part of the back.

dcinfo124 05-29-2012 07:19 PM

Here's the pattern for the sleeves:

1st row: K2, *(p2,k1) twice, k2tog, yfwd, yrn, p1, (k1,p2)twice, k1, repeat from * to last st, k1, cast on 16 sts. You will now have 115 sts on needle.

2nd row: P1,*p1,(k2,p1)twice, p3,(p1,k2)twice,repeat from * to last 2 sts, p2, cast on 16 sts. You will now have 131 sts on needle.

3rd row: K2, *p2,k1,p2,k2tog,yfwd,k1,yfwd,s1,k1,psso,(p2,k1)twi ce,repeat from * to last st, k1

4th row: P1, *(p1,k2) twice, p5, k2 p1,k2, repeat from * to last 2 sts, p2

1st to 4th row resets pattern.
Continue unti 64 pattern rows have been worked from start of sleeves.

SO I knitted Rows 1 thru 4, I'm back to row 1 and noticed that pattern repeats exactly the same (meaning the yarn over didn't shift in order to make the diamond pattern).

If I follow the back pattern like you suggest (salmonmac), do I do the CO on the 5th and 6th row and so forth?
