FO: Set of 3 baby girl's Garter-T tops
A BFF of mine will welcome her first great-grandchild (girl) into the world in August!

I knit up a set of 3 "Garter-T" tops for her great-granddaughter. (all from stash I'd like to add!)

All 3 tops are cotton or cotton-like. (the lavendar is a special concoction of acrylic that looks, feels and acts like cotton. I purchased 10 skeins of it from an Ebay auction several years ago.)

Click here to read my Ravelry notes, yardages, etc.

I am especially happy with my buttons, which are also from my existing button stash!

These tops are knit all in one piece, starting from the front bottom cast on edge, working up to the neckline 'slit/split' where each side and sleeve are worked separately until the tops of the shoulders, and from there the two sides are joined again and you work down the back to the hem. (the little cap sleeves are also 'built-in' by working increases to create the little cap sleeve in the front, a few rows of plain knitting at the top of the shoulder, and then going down the backside the same number of decreases leaves you with the same number of original stitches)

Anyway, it's a nice little design. So simple, in fact, that I was confused at first. The designer should have included photos of the top before the sides were grafted together, and the knitter would have a better understanding of the construction. :eyes:

I love my buttons. I was hesitant to use buttons for an infant top, but I tied them really well, very hard, and added a drop of Fra-Check fabric glue onto the knots, thereby preventing them from working loose. If the mother doesn't like the idea of buttons, she can cut them off and add satin ribbon ties. The button loops are simple crochet loops, added after the fact, and are just as easily removed.

The great-grandmother (my BFF) is an accomplished seamtress, and could easily fix that issue if desired by the mother.

Here is the location for the pattern. It isn't free. I purchased it quite a while ago as a single pdf. But now it's only available as a part of an e-book 8-pc collection for about $12.26US dollars. I don't know what's going on with that decision. It seems a little ridiculous to remove the Garter-T from the single pdf availability.

BUT, every design in the e-book is adorable. Hats, tops, pants.

Absolutely adorable and the colors are so fresh. A luck baby girl.

Very cute, ArtLady! Those colors are perfect for a baby!

I especially like the thought you put into with the buttons.

You are such a thoughtful knitter!

That is an interesting pattern, especially the sleeve. I haven't seen that one before. Always something new out there. Beautiful little tops, love the colors and yarns (and buttons). I've always put buttons on baby things. I guess there is always that remote possibility of them chewing them off. But if you discover the little kid is a chewer don't leave him untended in his buttons.

You've created 3 adorable 'must-have's' for any baby. Really perfect combination of design, color and trim. I love them!

Super duper cute and nothing better than being able to use stash yarn!

These are positively delicious looking--I mean they look good enough to eat. Hopefully, though, the baby won't eat anything on them--buttons or yarn!

Kudos to you for using up your stash AND some of your buttons. Just think how much fun you're going to have building up your stash again!
