This is shocking and only partially fixed. I initiatially found the story when my virus software posted a link on FB. I need to redo some security things for sure.

It really is a horror story. I heard the interview with the writer, Mat Honan, on NPR yesterday.

just increased my security, thanks for posting. I had my gmail account hacked once before. My daughter had notified my to change my password. I don't know what she received but she knew it wasn't from me

Oh yeah, the news of the hack spread through my company like wildfire (we're web developers). You need to have the 2 factor authentication if you want any real measure of security... I feel bad that Honan lost so much but at least this is serving as a good warning to everyone else. :/
