Extra Yarn
I have tons of yarn that I've collected over the years. A lot of it is left overs without a label. Can I weight those portions on a kitchen scale and rely on that weight to determine how much I have to use for a project?

I don't think so if you don't have labels. I'm not sure how you'd do it I this case. What I do is make something like a scarf or hat that can be made with multiple small amounts.

note to self: always keep the label!

You would need to determine if they're all the same thickness because they have different yards per oz/g. You can use wraps per inch (wpi) to figure out the weight classes, then see how much yardage in each class. This page has a wpi chart at the bottom.
