Problem with first row of raglan sleeve

I'm knitting Stefanie Japel's pattern "Ubernatural" (http://www.stefaniejapel.com/shop/fr...ernatural.html), which is a top down raglan cardigan.

I follow the directions and no matter how many times I've started over (thinking I was making mistakes b/c I haven't knit in a few years), the beginning row of the sleeve does NOT look right.

Directions:

Quote:

Cast on 40 [50, 60, 70] stitches.
Row 1 (WS): Knit

Row 2 (RS): Make button hole, knit 7 [9, 11, 13] yo pm yo, knit 4 [6, 8, 10] yo pm yo, knit 18 [20, 22, 24] yo pm yo, knit 4 [6, 8, 10] yo pm yo, knit 7 [9, 11, 13]

Row 3 and all odd rows (WS): Knit 3 stitches, purl to last 3 stitches, knit 3 stitches.

Row 4 and all even rows (RS):
Knit to the marker, yo, pass the marker, k1 yo
knit to second marker, yo pass m, k1 yo
knit to third marker, yo, pass m, k1 yo,
knit to fourth marker, k1yo, pass m, yo, knit to end.
In her picture you can see how nice the raglan line looks with the two holes on either sides and the knit stitch running down the middle.

But I get this:

It has to be something I'm doing wrong with row 2 where you place the markers, or Row 4.
Is there an error in the pattern where I need to leave a space between the YOs in Row 2 and do a knit stitch in between?

Thanks!! I could probably do some experimenting and figure this out but I'd really like to finish it before Christmas so I'm in a time crunch.

It looks almost like you're doing the increases every row. Are you purling a plain row without increases in between the increase rows?

runningwithlola 12-15-2012 02:54 PM

Yes, I am doing a plain purl row in between.

It looks like you don't have a knit stitch between your yarn overs and/or what Jan said.

Okay the incs don't seem to be right, you do double YO's but it doesn't say what to do with them on the next row. Usually you knit 1 purl the other, unless you're supposed to just have a big hole there which is what you have.

There was a note in a ravelry project that there's errors, and I think row 2 is one of them. Ahh, I found a correction for it in another project.

"Row 2: Adjusted stitch count. A knit stitch needs to be worked between the two yarn-overs, i.e. “yo, pass marker, k1, yo”. Full row: “K2, yo, K2tog, knit 3 (5, 7, 9) yo, pm, k1, yo, knit 4 (6, 8, 10) yo, pm, k1, yo, knit 18 (20, 22, 24) yo pm k1 yo, knit 4 (6, 8, 10) yo, pm, k1, yo, knit 7 (9, 11, 13).”

the CO edge looks loose there.
Which cast on did you use?

runningwithlola 12-15-2012 03:04 PM

The first row after casting on says:
yo pm yo

Is the problem just that I need to put a knit stitch in between the YOs?

runningwithlola 12-15-2012 03:06 PM

long tail cast on.

I think you're right Suzeeq!

I'm going to try just what you said with a small swatch and then start over.

You gals are great! Thanks a ton.

suzeeq 12-15-2012 03:16 PM

Yes you need a k between the YOs, see the corrections for the row in my post 5 which I did after you posted.
