Reading a pattern

My pattern starts with
"CO 40 (46,52) sts. Pm for beg of md"
I have no idea how to start!
I know to cast on 40 but that's it.
HELP!

Hi,

Pm - means place marker

I would need to see the pattern for the next part.

Well, after you CO 40, you then place a marker to mark beginning of round (I suspect the md you wrote is really a rnd). But, beyond that I can't say.

Somewhere there must be more directions, such as "continue in stockinette", "start pattern" or "use graph".

What pattern are you using? Could you provide a link?

Welcome to KH. You're knitting in the round, apparently. If that's where you're stuck, try the videos here.
