HELP! Wendy Happy wool

Hi there,
I am a beginner knitter and have bought Wendy Happy wool.
I have been told it has a pattern when you knit it made with the different colours. Can I knit any old thing to get the desired effect or does it have to be a pattern made for this wool to get the colour pattern effect?

Any help would be wonderful.

You can knit just about anything depending on the gauge of the pattern and the drape or feel of the knit fabric that you want. The yarn usually knits at 28sts/4inches. Here's some suggestions. You can see that knitting smaller items tends to give bigger stripes than knitting larger things because of the number of sts in the row. Find a pattern that you like (socks, hat, sweater?) and give it a try. The link for the yarn on Ravelry also has a link to projects that others have made with this yarn to give you more photos (right side of Rav link page) It's very pretty yarn in good colors.

Thanks so much for your help :-)
I tried knitting a square but the pattern was all random.
The pattern I wanted to use have 27sts/4inch gauge with 3.25mm needles would this be OK?
I am trying to knit a baby jumper.

Thanks again

That sounds very good. Do a small gauge swatch (32sts or so for about 4 inched) in the sweater stitch pattern and see if you need to change the needle size you're using. Then you should be set to go. The pattern formed by the color changes will depend on how frequently the changes occur. If they're close together, you may get a random pattern, farther apart and you'll get more stripes.
