Pattern for mitten - confused!!
I am working on my first project and have come across many challenges, last time I needed advice the very lovely members of this forum helped me out and I am hoping that I can call on that kindness again!
Here is what my pattern is telling me to do:
(end of thumb gusset)
Next row: K2 tog to end, break yarn, thread through sts and fasten off. Sew up thumb seam. With right side facing, rejoin yarn, pick up and K4 sts at lower edge of thumb, K to end of row. 42 stitches
My problem is that I have 20 stitches on the left needle and 18 stitches on the right needle, where do I add the yarn so that I can knit all the stitches? Surely whichever way I go I'll be missing either needle's stitches! If anyone can help me with this it would be much appreciated!!
Can you post a link to your pattern? Just to clarify, are these knit flat?
From you last post it seems that with the right side facing (the outer side of the mittern) you've already knit the 20sts. They should be on the right needle and the 18sts on the left needle.
"To shape thumb:
Next row - K32, turn, cast on 2 sts"
So with the needles oriented this way, hold the tail of yarn in place with your right hand and pick up the 4sts along the base of the thumb and then continue to knit the 18sts on the left needle.
Glad you've got the thumb sorted!
