Desperately Seeking Vintage Pattern
When I was teenager in Nova Scotia in the late 70s I had a pattern for a batwing sweater made with soft chunky yarn. It was super easy to knit with size 13 circular needles and it had one row of vertical cable on each side. I can't recall exactly but I believe it had a shawl neck collar. I think it was a Patons pattern but it was a long time ago. I've searched for years to try and find this sweater pattern and have had no success. Does anyone recall a pattern for a sweater such as a I am describing? I'd appreciate help in locating this pattern. Thanks.

That's almost exactly it although the collar was different. It didn't drap down like that one does and also it had a single column of cabling on each side of the front which that one doesn't.

Making the collar narrower would make it less floppy.

And, you could add whatever cable you want. :)

I was speaking with my sister and she seems to recall it had more of a cowl neck and I think she's right.

You might try a similar pattern and then work on modifying it as RK suggests. Sometimes that's the only way to recreate something.

I'll just have to do that then or somehow track the actual pattern. Thanks.

Or these?

Check "Water Wheel 713" - about 1/4 way down on the left

It's none of those however I really appreciate you helping me try and track it down. :-P

I've been knitting for over 30 years but I've never knit without a pattern so I'll try and find the batwing pattern I want and then find another pattern with a cowl neck and see if I can figure out how to combine them without completely messing up.

I know the pattern I'm looking for was knit from the sleeves out and was knitted using circular needle. There was no sewing involved, you knit the entire sweater in one piece.

Do you remember the name of the company that put it out? If you do, an email to them might get results. Do you have a picture of you wearing the one you made?
