Need help with thumbhole on fingerless gloves

I am knitting this pattern:

Maurine

I am having trouble with the thumbhole on Rows 30 and 31. When I knit row 31, I am assuming that there should be one hole for the thumb; I think I am doing the bind-off incorrectly on row 30; I tinked back to row 30. Where I go wrong is after k14 on row 30, but I'm not sure of what to do.

The other problem I had with this have is knowing what type of cast on to do on row 31. This pattern is knit in the round.

Row 30: k14, BO6, K6, k2tog, k3, YO, k1, YO, DDc, YO, k1, YO, k3, ssk

Row 31: k14, CO5, sl last CO st to left needle and k2tog, K20

Thank you in advance for your help.

Why do you think you're doing the BO incorrectly? Is your stitch count coming out wrong? I think I'd use a knitted or cable CO in row 31.

Beautiful pattern.

It seems to me that there are rounds that don't add up. I haven't looked at all of them but just those near rounds 30 and 31. it seems that round 26 ends with 41sts, round 28 ends with 41sts but round 30 requires 42sts. Round 30 ends with 36sts (the cast off of 6sts) but round 31 only accounts for 35sts. Maybe that's causing some of the problem?

Thanks GG. I've never done anything like this before and I think I may be casting onto the wrong needle. @salmon, I'm going to check the math on this.

I'm cleaning the carpet in between knitting, wait, what did you say? I thought that's the way it's supposed to be :teehee: knit, work, knit.

So I've paid closer attention to what I've done here.

I knitted row 30 and all the stitches seem to have worked out. It is when I get to row 31 that I have a problem.

Row 31 begins with k14, I only have 13 stitches before I get to the bound off stitches. If I were to knit 13 and then do my cast on, I would end up with an extra stitch by the end of the row.

I've charted rows 28 - 36. I'm going to go ahead and knit, keeping track of the changes and see if I can get it to work out. What is important is to keep the lace section in order. I might be able to get it to work out.

Yes, if you can keep the lace panel set, you can work out the problem with the other sts. Remember too, that for the bind off you need to k14, then k2 and then lift the second stitch over the first. That will give you the 14sts berfore the bind off.

Thank you salmon! I was never certain about how to begin a bind-off in the middle of the row; it's absolutely clear now :muah: TYSM
