Ribbing issue. Am I crazy or is this normal?

I'm making my first hat in the round and the pattern is P2K2 for the ribbing. The cast on stitch number is 90 stitches. I had to rip it out at row 3 because the ribbing wasn't right. I thought I could just do this pattern continuously over and over but when I drew the whole thing on paper, it appears that with the number if stitches being 90, that I will end up with a back seam with 4 purls together. Am I crazy? Help!

What pattern are you using? Was it written for in the round or are you changing it? Your cast on for 2 x 2 rib must be a multiple of 4 for knitting in the round. You could drop it down to 88.

This is a pattern I purchased from ravelry.com. The small/medium cast on is 80 the medium/large is 90. I'm not sure how to make the body of the hat work if I increase the stitches for the ribbing. I've attached the pattern pic. At least I know I'm not crazy. Now I just need to figure out how to fix it.

If you just copy/paste the URL to the pattern on Ravelry we can see what the hat looks like. Thanks.

Like GG said, if you can post the Ravelry link to the pattern, we can see it to hopefully avoid offering a solution that would cause problems.Which is why GG asked for the link, unfortunately the pattern pic didn't attach.

That said, if you absolutely have to have 90 stitches, a 3x2 rib will work math wise unless you're centering 2x2 cables on the ribbing.

Purl 3 knit 2 or knit 2 purl 3?
Thank you for your help!!!!

Is the reversible lace rib a multiple of 4? If so I think any multiple of 4 would work with the pattern.

I would knit 3, purl 2 to keep it looking as much like the original as possible. But you could certainly work it as you've described. Your call, as there are no knitting police. :)

Before I forget, you made a good catch with the stitch count.

Have fun with your hat, it's a pretty design.
