FO: crocheted convertible mittens

This is my own pattern, playing around with yarn. It's done in two pieces. The main part is fingerless mittens. They can be done with the half fingers like I have here or done straight across with no fingers. The second piece is done from the top down in rounds like the top half of a mitten. The bottom edge is then sewn horizontally to the outside of the mitten to create the cover and hand flap.

Oh, those look comfy. Are crocheted mittens as warm as knitted ones?

Gorgeous yarn and great pair of mittens. They look mighty warm and most of the country could use them for sure!

Nice mittens and I love how the striping in the yarn forms diagonal stripes, well done!

I like those mittens! Wonderful colors and beautiful work.

This is variegated yarn, so I can't take credit for the striping. I'm not sure what color this was, but it was Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn. Yes, Grumpy Grandma. Crocheted mittens are very warm. When I first started crocheting, I wondered about the holes in crochet. But when I put on gloves, hats, and scarves, they actually get too hot so I have to take them off, especially in the car. Convertible gloves are nice. They're great for fishing out keys from your pockets an make nice driving gloves. You can put a pair of those one size fits all stretchy magic gloves underneath if the temps turn subzero, like it has been here for the past week or so. Toasty!
