help with pattern
 

I am a new knitter. I am loving it so far and seem to be catching on quite well. I have a question I've been ttying to knit a traveling vine lace pattern and my stitch count isn't coming out right. It is fine until I get to row 3 and then I run out of stitches before I can finish a sequence of the * ......... * instructions. I've tried it several times and been very careful about paying attention. Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong?

It sounds like there is some kind of decrease in either row 3 or the row before maybe (eg k2tog). If there is, then it is probably followed a few stitches later by a corresponding increase (eg yo). If you decrease by one stitch, you usually have to increase by one stitch on the same row somewhere. If you are not increasing, this could be why you are running out of stitches...? But I don't really know how a "travelling vine stitch" is put together so I am just guessing...
