Sock help, Silver.

Okay, I'm knitting my first pair of socks. I am following the magic stripes pattern almost exactly. Only thing I changed is I wanted ankle socks, so I shortened the leg length. Now I'm at the heel and it says:

Heel flap (worked back and forth on 28 heel sts only)
Row 1 *Slip 1, k 1; rep from *.
Row 2 *Slip 1, p 1; rep from *.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until heel flap measures 2 1/4" (28 rows), ending with Row 2.

Your pattern says: Row 2 (wrong side): Slip one, purl across. (Slip ONLY the first stitch, purl the rest including the slipped stitches from row 1.)

I'm following their pattern, but I'm finding it incredibly tight. So tight that my hand is cramping up as I struggle to knit and purl across. Is there something wrong or is this normal? I've tried knitting more loosely, but it still stays tight.

I should also note that when I slipped on the knit side, I slipped as if to knit.. when on the purl side.. or wrong side, I slipped as if to purl.

I haven't knit the magic stripes pattern, but it's tight because they have an abundance of slipped stitches. I really don't believe that's necessary. Just slip one, then purl across on the wrong side and it'll be fine. :)

so should I frog back to where I started the slipping or should I just slip one purl side from now on?

Yeah, frog back first.

Aby, I hear you saying "OUCH" on the frog back; but I did the same thing that you did on my 1st pair of socks, it happened to have that same heel (hate that heel) and I very, very rarely use it and if I do, it's so hard to do bc you have to knit sooooooo loosely it's ridiculous. And it won't take long to do that froggin'
Hey, Silver...where did u get your frog?!

WOW! That REALLY made such a difference. I was struggling so hard before. Now it's stitching along like a breeze. :notworthy: Thank you so much, Silver and Rebecca. :cheering: You certainly made my sock knitting a much more pleasureable experience. Now I'm at the "turn"ing point.. hehehe ~crossed fingers~ here we go! Wish me luck.

WOOHOO! :cheering: Turning the heel is so much fun. It's like magic.

Rebecca, I got the frog from an extension for my browser called
