Wow, I am sooo stuck!!!

I've been trying to learn for a few days now. I got the boyle learning kit and walmart and have watched the videos and studied the book intently. However, my knits no matter if I'm doing garter, stockingnet or whatever will not look like v's. Everything comes out looking like purls!!! :?? I'm using the throwing method and I've even sat and done it with the video but I still get purls! :( Any help or idea what I'm doing wrong???

Are you working with the yarn behind the stitches? When you purl the yarn is in front, knit the yarn is in back.

A picture might help if you have digital available.

The Mod Squad was here - removed duplicate post. ;)

Lacedolphin, (love your name)

The knit stitches only look like Vs if you're doing stockinette stitch which is knit one row then purl the next. If all you're doing is knitting every stitch of every row that is garter stitch and it WILL look like ridges of purl bumps. If this is what is happening you may not be doing anything wrong at all. I hope this is the case.

Also what kemp said.

And also remember that if you are purling ALL rows, it will look like garter st too! ;)

do you have a digital camera so you can take a picture of your work and show us what you are doing?

It may not be a bad idea to start with JUST knit stitches for a bit so you get use to that before trying to throw purls and doing stockinette stitch. A lot of people find purl stitches hard and ackward to learn initially so mastering knit stitch first may not bad.

I'm not sure. I'm either wrapping wrong or not having the yarn all the way in back, or all the way in front. I tried stockingnet to check and see if it was just it was garter and nope, im still bumpy. :?? I know I'm close just can't get over the hill. After the kids go to bed tonight my needles,me and amys videos gonna have a workout. I know the answer is there, just gotta figure it out.

It really does sound like you're knitting every row. It's a common thing when you're starting out. Check the videos again, and study any printed material you have and maybe you can figure out what's going on. If not, we are here!

If anything can help it will be Amy's videos. I had relatives show me in PERSON, I had read books, other internet sites, stumbled across this site and voila... :) Been knitting for about 2 months now...thanks to Amy :)

I've got the knit stich down pretty good now, but the purl is still illuding me. I found I was wrapping the wrong way on the knit, and the wrong needle on the purl. Still working on it though! :XX:
