How do I switch from circular needle to double pointed?

Hi all, I am working on a hat, and toward the end of the project, the pattern says to switch from circular needle to double pointed needles. How do I do that? :??

When you get to the point that you have too few stitches to fit around the circ, you need to switch to dpns. Either knit right on to them, or slip the stitches from the circ to the dpns, dividing the stitches evenly.

yup yup....it is easy enough to slip them off that i did it in a dark theatre last night! ;) the hardest part was finding where i had put the DPNs in my purse!
