Oh Why am I....
:crying: :crying: why am i so slow in knitting? i hear guys knitting a bags in 4 hours, It takes several days. I wonder if i am not being effective. I didn't think I was too slow until i made a scarf and now i am making this multi colored tote. 4 hour scarves would probably take me 40 days. How do you make yourself more efficent.

brendajos 02-28-2006 01:24 PM

practice practice practice.

and not letting yourself get bogged down in the idea that you are too slow. it seems to take me forever to get a project done but i don't have a lot of knitting time. so i just happily knit away and finish when i finish. I am excited if i get any project, no matter how big or small, done in a week!

Yep, practice and time will speed things up. However, remember that speed is not necessarily the important part of's the experience and the enjoyment you get from the process.

As far as some people knitting a bag in 4 hours?... Some people may have more time than you or maybe have been knitting since they were little, too. ;)

I agree with Brenda and Jan. Time and practice WILL speed you up. After knitting a lot within the past few months, I am really speedy with knitting.

I'm just trying to figure out more things every day. Just set out some time for knitting either everyday, or at LEAST once or twice a week. Practicing will get you going faster. :)

what kind of Music do you listen to?
I find I knit to Music once I get into a good Groove
and I agree Practice
different Yarns, different Needles, and then you have the actual act of knitting becomes rote, and you can focus on the pattern

Yep, practice :)

And don't think of speed so much--enjoy the feel of the yarn moving through your fingers, of the sound of the needles, and of the joy knitting brings to you! Speed will come with time.

I'm a slow knitter too and sometimes it can be frustrating when I want to get something done (like the hat and scarf I'm working on for my SIL's b-day March 12), I don't think she'll get it then, but at least I'll have a Christmas present out of the way!
