Felted mittens
 

Hi!
I am new to this forum, but have used the web-site for help with knitting teqniques a couple of times.
Now I really want to make some felted mittens for my dads birthday, (he is a sailor, and have told me how good they are for keeping you warm even when soaked in cold sea-water :D ). I haven't got a pattern, but i know how to make mittens in general, and i just love the knitted sailboat cloth pattern. http://www.knittingknonsense.com/sailboatcloth.html
Does anybody have an idea as to how that might work and how much (approximatly) a mitten shrinks when felted?
(I was thinking of knitting the pattern with a double thread, possibly in two colours to make it show after felted, but have no idea if it will work...)
