Making Needles

I saw Amy's video on making your own needles, but I'm curious, can you paint them or dye them as well? I was thinking of making my own needles and would love to do something funky with them. If it's possible, what is the best way to go about it? I'm sure regular paint, in time, would rub off the needle...Anyone try this?

Regular paint would most definitely rub off. You could try staining them. Or failing that, try painting them and then get some Modge Podge or dimensional magic (a clear coating that hardens over night as it dries). This could, however, give the needles a "slippery" feel. I'm not sure as I've never tried it, but it can't hurt I guess.

Or make big knobby ends for the needles and then paint those. :)

Yeah, I'd be afraid to paint them. The paint might rub off on your nice yarn!

I'd stain them, too. I think ModPodge would wear off very quickly, too.

K...Anyone have any idea what would be the best thing to use for staining them? lol

I imagine regular old Minwax stain. It comes in different colors. Then rub them down with wax paper to make them smoooooth.
