Extra stiches with a purl on double pointeds.
:?? I am confused. Here is my situation: I am knitting in the round with double pointed needles. To start I need to do K1 P1 rib. The problem is that everytime I am switching to the next needle and it is time to do a purl stich, I seem to add an extra stich. I don't understand what I am doing wrong. Please help someone!

Maybe it might be easiest to just shift all the stitches on the needles so that you always start with a knit stitch.

You're probably creating a yarn over somehow. Is the yarn in front between the needles when you do the first purl stitch?

Oh, thats a good idea. There won't be an even number of stitches on each needle but that is ok right?

Thanks, I will try that! :happydance:

You don't need an even number of stitches on each needle to knit on dpns.

I find when this happens to me, that as I move from one needle to the next, the yarn ends up in back and it creates the extra stitch.

Yeah, I think that must have been what was happening to me. I don't know why. But I just took Ingrid's advice and now it's working great! This is my first time knitting in the round so I am just teaching myself. I am making a wool diaper soaker for my son.
