Learning new techniques

I saw "Backward" knitting and also the short row and so tried them. On the short row I was kind of stumped :?? because I could tell where I did the wrap. Then I remembered KNITTINGHELP! :happydance: and thought perhaps there was a demo that Amy had. She did, does and I tried her method and can now do the short row with a wrap and you can't even tell it. :cheering:

So, it is interesting to learn new techniques I never knew existed! Don't know what I will use them for right now, but, you never know. (THere is pattern on knitty.com call Lizard afghan or similar name that I think uses the short row. I may try a swatch of that to see how it works. (I Think I saw somewhere that short rows are used in sock knitting and in sweaters where you need more fullness).

I am doing an entralac afghan now so I may just try the knitting backwards to see if that is easier than flopping it over ever little while at the end of each row (10 stitch rows).

Happy Knitting everyone.

Good for you, Linda :cheering: Learning new techniques is always fun and very satisfying for me, too.

I taught both of my daughter's to knit. They both come to me for help and advice when learnind new things.

One of them is working on a shadow knitting project and the other one completed a shadow knitting project sometime ago.

I told the eldest, now you know a technique I don't know! I have never done shadow knitting, so they will get to teach ME a new technique!

Love learning new things. If you want to try short rows on a small project, the Tychus hat on Knitty is done with short rows and is a fast knit! It's a fun hat to knit. Sort of like potatoes chips.. I did 4, couldn't do just one ;) They are in my gallery.

Thanks for the encouragement. After a while knit and purl knit and purl gets boring until you learn there is more...
