Those who have made the "fake" double-knit hats...

where you do a provisional CO, knit a hat, pickup from the provisional and knit another hat, stuff one inside the other...did you use worsted or DK or other weight of yarn? I just want to check that a double layered worsted hat is not too bulky for an adult sized hat.

The one I made was dk--my shaven-headed son found it plenty warm.

I made one with worsted for my BIL last Christmas. I imagine it was PLENTY warm!! DK or sport weight would probably be best unless you live in a very cold climate.

I used fingering weight sock yarn for a baby-sized Harlequin Cap, which is folded up (basically making 4 layers around the ears). I think worsted weight would be fine for an adult, and extra warm in a colder climate than we have here in southern California. :star:

Oh, and I wanted to mention, for those who don't care for provisional cast-ons, you can knit the hat top-down for one side and bottom-up for the second half.

The one I made was with WOTA so technically it's worsted although it does seem a little closer to DK than some worsted. It's nice and thick!
