Knifty Knitter

Received a Knifty Knitter set of round looms for Christmas. I think I understand what it does. Are such looms intended for children? What purpose does it serve, if any?

I think it's supposed to help you knit in the round. I think they're for kids (or adults) that don't know how to knit but would like to knit a hat or something.
