carrying the off color yarn when illusion knitting

Hi,

I'm very new to knitting but would like to try an illusion pattern such as DNA ( http://magknits.com/May06/patterns/rosalind.htm ) or this nice one ( http://www.dabne.net/carolina/geekkn...uxscarf-en.htm ).

Which technique is used to carry the "other color" along while you work the rows? The ones I saw Amy describe in her videos seemed more for multi-colors on the same row.

Thanks!

You don't carry the other color along in the DNA pattern. You simply let it hang at the end of the row until you need it again.

Edited to add: the Linux pattern is done the same way.

Thanks! I thought it would look a little funny with the 2-row long "dashes" at the edge of the scarf, but I'll give it a go and we'll see.

They'll be pretty subtle, don't worry about it!
