how to START a row with a YARN OVER (brioche)

i'm trying to start a brioche pattern, and i can't figure out how to START a row by doing a yarn over. (yo, sl 1, k 1 for first "prep row", then yo, sl1, k2tog after that)

help please!

thanks

Just pretend you're doing a regular YO and the yarn will sort of go over the needle from front to back. It doesn't seem stable, especially when you slip the stitch right after it, but it'll stay, and the edge will turn out quite nice-looking, even without adding selvages.
