Do I really need both circular and straight needles?

I have a pattern that says I need 24" Circular knitting needle, size 10 (6mm) and Straight knitting needles, size 10 (6mm) or size needed for gauge. Do I reallly need both?

I'm making Sacque, Bonnet, Booties, Blanket for baby for the 1st time.

Thanks,
Jen

i can't think of any reason why you would need both. circs can do it all! :cheering:

Sometimes patterns specify straight needles for any part of the project that is worked in short rows (not "short rows"). Why? :shrug"

Circs can likely do it all.

USe what is comfortable for you. I rarely use straights any more because I always seem to get them caught on things! Circs spread out the weight of bigger items and just seem easier to handle.

I don't own *any* straights! Circs and dpns do it all!

Started out knitting with straights, switched to circs and have never looked back. Except last summer, when I needed two sizes of needles to do a stitch pattern for a summer top. A 3 and a 5.

No problem, I thought. I'll use my Denise interchageables with one size on each end of the cables. But the smallest size in the set is a 5.

Fortunately, I had a bunch of old straights in a vase as a decorative chotchke. But boy, it felt so weird to have those rigid pieces of plastic sticking out on both sides. (They were too short to tuck under my arm.) The job got done, but I don't look forward to using them again.

I don't have any straights. Circulars can replace everything except, for me, my KnitPicks double points.

Same here. I gave all my straights away. I do have DPNs cuz I like using them for small diameter projects (socks), but I use circs for everything else.
