Shaping armholes of the summer tank.

I am working on my first, simple summer tank
and I have a question.

To shape the armholes, the instruction says,
Bind off 3(4-5-7)sts at beg of the next 4 rows, then
3(4-6-7) sts at beg of the next rows.

OK, I am knitting the back.
bind 3 sts and this is the right side of armhole, right?
then I thought, to make left side of the armhole???

Instruction does not say anything about binding of last
3 sts, but am I supposed to do that?? :??

I'm confused. :pout:
Please help!

You can't bind off at the end of a row, that's why the pattern says `BO at beginning of next 4 rows'. Don't worry that it'll be one row off; when you're done it's not noticeable.

Hi, Sue, thank goodness you are here!! :muah:

I got it! :figureditout: :figureditout:
I actually tried to bind off at the END of the row
and I was seriously wondering how the heck
everyone pulls this one off!

I've checked Amy's video of Purl bind off and
I think I'm OK for now.

Thanks again!!

Same tank, and now shaping shoulders

I'm still working on same summer tank.
Now I finally reached the part of shaping shoulders.

Instruction says, bind off 4 sts at each armhole adge twice, then bind off 3(4-5-5) sts once.

Is this mean shoulders are sort of leaning one side?
I don't have really clear idea.
I was thinking the shoulders are straight line.

Please advice!

Thank you

Niki

How many stitches do you have total? It may be that after you BO 4 sts at each edge, there's only 3 left. Shoulders are sometimes slanted a little.

Hi, Suzeeq!!

According to the original instruction, there are 11(12-13-13) sts
each side of shoulder.
But I modified a little and I have 12 each.
Should I BO 4 sts twice and 4sts again? That makes 12 sts.:??

Another thing I was wondering was
after I BO 4 sts (first row), I Knit right?? then purl till I get to the last xx sts.
I'm confused:??

Sure, you can do 4, 4, and 4. BO 4, then knit across. Turn and purl across. Turn, BO 4, knit across, then turn and BO the last 4 sts. You BO only at the armhole edge.

I think I understood, finally:doh:
I'll try this afternoon and see!

Thank you, and thank you for being there!!:muah:

Just noticed that I said...

You BO only at the armhole edge.
However, you can BO the last 4 stitches on the purl row; it won't matter which direction you do it, because they're the last ones.
