Fair Isle instead of Duplicate Stitch?
 

I'm knitting this pattern, and I was wondering if it would work if I used Fair Isle instead of the duplicate stitch technique, because I don't have a tapestry needle. Reply quickly, because I'm knitting them for my cousin for when she graduates to high school.
