Suede: Berocco vs. Lion Brand?

I have not used suede yarn, but I have some ideas for it. I just noticed Lion Brand Suede. How does it compare to Berocco in usage and in price??????

I believe the Lion Brand is thicker than the Berroco suede, but is seriously cheaper.

this suede is on sale:

but that's all I know about any of this.

They are not interchangeable. The Lion Brand suede is quite bulky where as the Berroco suede says it's worsted. Looked thinner to me, but it's ribbon-like and flat so that may be why.

Easiest to check is to go to the www.yarndex.com site or the brand sites.

the berroco feels stiffer to me. more like real suede  what do you plan on using the suede for?

I love the Berocco Suede knitting bag, and wondered if I could substitute the Lion Brand (I KNEW it would be cheaper):

I also posted this question here about a suede poncho I like. I believe I HAVE to have one! ;). Here's a link to the pattern:suede poncho (The Linda Poncho)

Arielluria - I made this bag with Lamb's Pride Worsted, if that helps at all. Much cheaper!

BTW - I have been seeing shih-tzu puppies everywhere!!!! AHHHHH!!! I want one!

i think you could sub the less expensive yarn. your bag would probably be less stiff/firm and more slouchy and soft. it would make a nice poncho!

If you can I'd go look at the Berroco suede and the Lion brand suede. Because of the difference in weight and yarn type substituting would be difficult. At the very least gauge would be hard to achieve.

ETA: I don't mean to discourage or sound like a broken record here. :pout: It's just that I tried substituting the LB for Berroco in a pair of booties and it didn't work at all.
