Charity Knitting - Canada
Just wondering if anyone has any Charity Knitting Links in Canada. If you are involved with an organization and would like to promote them and encourage people to knit for them, please let us know.
I'm based in Calgary, Ab But anywhere in the country would be great. While taking my Mom for Chemo a couple of years ago I ran accross an interesting project in the hospital. There were baskets in all the waiting areas in the Oncology dept. with yarn and needles. You could sit down and knit, while waiting. The squares were then put together by volunteers and given to patients going through treatment. I would like to start a program here if there isn't one already..... Anyone with info or ideas, please let me know...... Happy Knitting everyone:knitting: |

I joined Socks for Soldiers about a month ago. It's from the U.S.
But we have just been advised that a CANADIAN organization of SFS is being started. We knit socks, beanies and dishcloths for soldiers in wartorn countries where our troups are deployed and need all the knitters we can get. Contact Kim at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SOCKFORSOLDIERS Thank you. |
Sounds like a great idea! How is it coming along Sandi?

I have talked with the hospital and things are going slow. But will post as soon as something is finalized.

I've heard tons about this...but I'm stuck...do I just email the people that represent Toronto? can I mail them the knitting instead? Also: Does any one know of an organization where I can: -Knit blankets or scarves -It gets sent to soldiers, the homeless, or third world countries -It is canadian -I can mail them my knitting. thanks! |
There should be a shelter or soup kitchen that can direct you in the right direction. The one here in Calgary is called "The Mustard Seed"
Good luck in your search! |
Hi, Sandi ... were you able to find any charities here in Calgary that would accept donations of knitted goods? Or did you ever form such a group?
|
Yes I did. I do a bit of knitting with the Alberta_Wildrose_Charity group on Yahoo. I also knit baby blankets with the WCOBB group on Ravelry. Check both out and join us if you want to. We can always use more knitters. The items done through Wildrose goes to the Mustard Seed Shelter here in Calgary.
Hope this helps! Sandi Quote:
