FO: My 1st Prayer Shawl

Here it is ... that's my boy "modeling" it for me. My girl wasn't in a cooperative mood when I wanted to take the photo :teehee:

I used the basic increase pattern I found here at KnittingHelp.com. I knit it for my very good friend who had a double-lung transplant in November 2006. She is just 40 years young, and suffered for 4 years with emphysema. She was hospitalized again this past Monday with pneumonia, so I finished it just in time to cheer her up. She's an amazing mom to 3 children - a 15 year old daughter, 13 year old son, and 11 year old daughter who has spina bifida. All of your prayers are greatly appreciated as her kids really want her back home as soon as possible!!!

Thank you!!

OOOoooh that is lovely.. I :heart::heart::heart: prayer shawls b/c they are just so beautiful physically and sentimentally. i have a coworker 32! who has cancer and someone had given her a lovely:inlove: pink chevron pattern prayer shawl while she was receiving chemo.. it was soo pretty . of course her 4 yr old dd had to take it for herself:rofl: but you are a good friend by making it for her. We spent a lot of time in the hospital last year and a shawl would have been such a sweet reminder that someone cares.. you can feel so alone in the hospital~!:pout:
Good Job~!:cheering::cheering::cheering:

I love it! Such a beautiful color!!! How exactly are prayer shawls used?

It's so beautiful! That's the only word for it: simply beautiful!

It looks so soft and comforting, and the color is amazing! (If you don't mind my asking, what is the yarn?)

I am sure it will bring comfort to your friend and helps her healing process.

That is beautiful - and I'm sure will be a great blessing to your friend! One of the things I love about knitting gifts is that part of the gift is just the time you gave to knit the gift and thinking of that person.

What a lovely gift! I hope your friend makes a full recovery soon!

Rachel - Thank yoU! You can read more here, but they're used to give comfort, to people in the hospital, elder care homes, or just for someone that you care about. This to me, is what a prayer shawl does for the recipient "they wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify." :)

Thank you AussieYank!! I just found out this evening from her husband that if she hadn't gone to the doctor on Monday, the infection would have been fatal, so we're all praying really hard for her to get better!!
