Thank you charity knitters/crocheters/crafters!

I would like to thank everyone who knits/crochets/crafts for charity.

My son was born in April and spent 7 weeks in the NICU at Children's Hospital in San Diego. During that time he got to use 3 blankets made by volunteers (we got to bring home one). Between those blankets and things that I had made, Samuel was always surrounded by something made with love and care. That made a world of difference to me knowing that he had something personal and special in such a sanitized, impersonal setting. While our hospital didn't have shawls for moms, I know that those would have been greatly appreciated by the NICU moms. The whole experience of having your baby taken from you (for the best of reasons) right after birth and moved to another hospital from you and then learning all about the medical challenges your baby faces is very frightening, isolating, and overwhelming. I was lucky that I was at a hospital close to Children's and was about to take a van over to see him. We were also lucky that we only live 20-30 minutes from Children's. Some of the families live hundreds or thousands of miles away. Those little blankets, hat, booties, etc. are a something bright during a dark period.

When we are back in the hospital this fall for open heart surgery, we will have that blanket with us (and the one I'm making now I hope!).

There was no way to thank the volunteers who made the blankets for the NICU, so I am thanking everyone here in their place.

Thank you all! :yay:

Thank you so much for the personal story, Angelina!
:muah:

Reading and hearing about stories like this makes all our charity knitting worthwhile.

Thanks for sharing your story. I'm glad you had the blankets and that you got to take one home.

Keep us informed about your son. I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers.

Angelina .. what a beautiful name.

To repeat what others here say .. it is wonderful to hear feedback on the joys that charity knitting items bring to a family. I have a friend whose son was 7 weeks early and he too was in nicu for 6 weeks. That was when I began my charity knitting for preemies.

I will be saying prayers for you, your son and and the care givers watching over you.

God Bless ... KC

Thanks for the kind words. Most of the things I make go to people I never see, and it's kind of hard to picture where they end up.
