Bulky weight alpaca yarn
Knit Picks used to sell a variety of colors of their "Decadence" line (100% alpaca in bulky weight for $6 a 121 yard hank), but their recent catalog shows only three colors. :verysad: Does anybody know of a 100% alpaca bulky weight yarn that's comparably priced from another source, or maybe even an affordable 100% alpaca in a worsted weight that I can double strand? Why would they cut this line down to only three colors???

Plymouth has a Baby Alpaca Grande that is simply to die for. It's about twice as much, though. :(

My favorite is Misti Alpaca. It runs about $13 for a 108 yards and comes in tons of colors. It is heavenly to wear and to work with. cloud9 They have a really pretty free scarf pattern that uses one skein and is very easy.
:pout: I have had a difficult time finding it in stores, though you can find it online. http://www.mistialpaca.com/catalog.p...ction=2&page=0 |
Those yarn swatches of the Misti alpaca even look soft! (well, so do the Plymouth ones!)

Oh, it is sooooo soft. It's almost like knitting with a cloud.

I second the misti alpaca, I'm knitting with it right now! It was $12.50/108 yds though :(

I third the Misti Alpaca! So soft and fluffy. It's sitting in my stash calling to me. I have to double up on the self restraint and finish at least one of my WIPs before I play with the Alpaca.
Just a bit of yarn pr0n. =) ![]() |
Now that I've drooled  all over my keyboard.......!
Why aren't there any LYS near me????!!!! :hair: I'd really like to go see and touch these yarns in person. :verysad: |
I'm also looking a bulky alpaca - in a charcoal gray. The Misti and Plymouth are like big fluffy clouds. There's also Frog Tree Alpaca, which is really nice and made by a women's collective, in Bolivia I think.
In the end, though, I wound up going with chunky Malabrigo (but I'm still keeping my eyes open!). |
