Need an unusual fix
I'm working on a stockinette shawl with large inserts of lace down the back and around the edges. I just discovered a dropped stitch that was laddering down through the stockinette. I was able to bring it back to the edge of the lace, but I can't incorporate it into the lace. The stitch count is just right now, without that dropped stitch. Is it possible to tie it off so it ends just at the edge of the lace? Thanks!

That would be what I would do. If your stitch count is on, you probably picked up a stitch somewhere. Adding this in would probably make a mess. I'd secure it where it is and call it good. But I am the sort that goes, "eh, it's a little thing not worth the headache of fixing it." If it majorly made the pattern look bad I might frog down to that row, but otherwise I'd probably just leave it.

if the stitch number of the lace is correct and the ladder was below it, chances are it was caused by not quite catching the loop in a decrease. So if you want to be compulsive about it, you can drop the NEXT column down; incorperate the dropped stitch and then chain the column back up again. But that would be a heck of a lot of work for not much difference in the result.

I'd just secure it and move on, too.
