Knitting without a pattern
I have start knitting recently, although I knew how to knit since I was in school. I have done some bags etc, but now I am knitting a sweater for my daughter.
I live in Cyprus and all the yarns mentioned in patterns I see are not available here. Also I do not like following patterns, I want to be creative. Fot the sweater I am doing, I have calculated the stitches by doing a square with the yarns and some math but I need help to proceed. Does anyone can give me instuctions (or where to find them) on how to knit without a pattern, that is how to shape armholes, sleeves and neck, how to create a colllar etc? Thank you. Stalo |
This might be a good place to start:
The Knitting Fiend Some book suggestions would be: Anything by Elizabeth Zimmerman The Knitter's Handy Book of Sweater Patterns by Ann Budd The Sweater Workshop by Jacqueline Fee All of the above should give you the basic dimensions and variations to design your own sweaters. Hope this helps! Susan |
I would definitely go to
http://www.schoolhousepress.com and send them an email or phone, asking them best way to learn Elizabeth Zimmerman's "Percentage System". She devised this to allow people to make garments of their own liking using any yarn they desire. |
