Custom needle resource
For all of you who have a hard time finding certain needle sizes, for example, that maddening break between US sizes 10.5 (6.5mm) and 11 (8mm), here is a great resource:

There was a recent thread about suggestions for great wooden needles, and slybella mentioned that she had some from this company. I went to their website and ordered some various in-between sizes that are hard to find. Not only were they friendly and very accomodating, they have no additional charge for custom sizes! They are a bit on the expensive side and only available in straights and dpns, but they will last a life time and are beautiful.

So you don't have 7 mm needles commmonly available? How odd. For those of you who live in places where these are not sold, if you don't mind wooden or bamboo needles, you could also try making them out of 7/7.5 mm dowels.

Nope, the US manufacturers don't make them. I get metric ones from ebay, this source doesn't work for me becaues I use circulars. I did find a place in Oregon, Angelika's Yarn, Knitting Needles that has Addis and Pony in metric sizes.

Just to clarify-- these folks will make whatever size you want. I only used the US missing 7mm/7.5mm issue as an example.

Suze, there is a tute on making your own circs - fairly straightforward, surprisingly - I think it is on Knitter's Review somewhere, and mentioned on KH.

I know, and I bought some 7mm one from an ebay shop that apparently makes them the same way. I don't care for the tubing cable, it's too thick. At least they were only $3 including shipping and I do use them, but don't think I care for the bamboo finish. I much prefer metal needles.
