I Can't Stand Blocking!
 

There...I said it.

I finished the Branching Out Scarf last night for a friend who requested it last fall after seeing the one I made for myself. She's going to use it as a table runner.

I don't have wires for lace blocking, so it's up to me...who's not an "exact" person, to block the darned thing with just pins...with a 65 lb dog laying right beside the scarf.

No telling what it's going to turn out like...

Anyhow...just had to vent. Thanks for listening! :teehee:

Couldn't you use twine or thin yarn and knot it around pins?

Blocking has always made me very, very cranky. I finally bought a blocking wire set (the one that was $19 shipped from JoAnn) and now I can't wait to block my next lace project. :mrgreen:

(I do hope it's much easier with the wires!)

I block on a bed with pins.. I put down a beach towel then item pinned like I want... A friend suggested rinsing and spinning a beach towel in washer then placing it gently on top of the item... pressing it with my hands carefully...when it dries the item is blocked!!! works well :eyes: :waving: :sun: :blooby:

I used some neon string stuff to block last night, following the instructions in one of KP's magazines. But, I think I didn't leave enough give as I threaded it around the scarf, because I couldn't really pull out the string to pin it to the floor. I wound up just pinning around the scarf like I would have done without the string.

Oh well. Hopefully it will come out okay. I guess blocking (with straight edges) is a skill you have to fine-tune.

I usually just press with a warm steam iron works great as long as you do it gently=just barely touch the yarn.

I don't like blocking or weaving ends . For blocking I put the piece on a towel , spray it with water and press it down very gently with a warm iron .
