casting on
when i cast on i do the slip knot and single cast on..
but when im done kniting my first row after cast on, the tail is like triple the length it was when i first cast on.. what am i doing wrong? im keeping my tension good but i get this big huge long tail after i knit my first row.. |
The backward loop/single CO? It's like that, and while it's easy, it's not a good one for large amounts of sts because the loops grow. Try a knitted or cable cast on, or the long tail.

ive tried the long tail before but i always end up with like 4 loops on the needle instead of just one..
i cant get that one.. how do i do a knitted cast on? |
Check out the videos for "cast-on" under the "View Videos" tab at the top of the page. There are videos of many different type of cast-ons. You can view, pause, cast-on along with Amy, watch frame by frame, etc...
Best of luck. |
I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one. I am knitting my first afghan and I have to cast on 182 stitches. I keep starting over because the loop is so large it is not manageable. I am going to try a different cast on method to see if this helps. Good Luck!

I really like the cable cast on. When i was a kid I used to use backward loop but it just doens't look nice once you get going. I sometimes us it when i want to do a swatch that I don't care about but for a project i never ever use it.
