Where to Buy Yarn Online?

Could anyone give me some suggestions on where to buy yarn online for a good price, maybe with free shipping? I don't have a car right now and can't make it to the stores very easily or quickly. I'd like to also be able to find yarns listed in some patterns that I don't think stores like Michael's or AC Moore carry. Any help would be appreciated! :happydance:

You can go to - yarn.com, littleknits.com, elann.com and knitpicks.com for starters. They have free shipping after a certain $ amount. The yarns at the last one, knitpicks, you won't find in any store, they're online only.

Dale of Norway Freestyle

I'm looking for this type of yarn, but not having any luck with the online stores mentioned. One place only has 3 colors of this type, but not the ones I wanted. I am googling other places to find this yarn. Is this an uncommon yarn? Is there something that's equivalent that I could use instead that might be easier to find? I'm making baby blocks.
Thanks. :aww:

Try finding the manufacturer of the yarn - their site will often list shops that carry it.

Also try www.yarndex.com. You can find other yarns with the same guage that may be easier for you to find.

My last thought - if you're making baby blocks, size really isn't a major factor. What will it matter if the pattern makes a 2" block. You can use different yarn and make a 2.5" block. Or whatever, so long as it isn't too small.

Handmade yarns from Etsy.com

No matter where you are in the world there's probably an etsy yarn seller near you. If you don't know already, etsy.com is a website devoted to handmade goods where artisans have their own shops on-line. The products are probably slightly more pricey in comparison but they are beautiful and I always enjoy supporting handmade artisans. There are also a lot of knitters who sell their products there!

Here's some of my favourite yarn suppliers from Etsy:
---------------
Fearless Fibers:
wonderful sock yarns in lovely hues, plus blockers & patterns
FearlessFibers.etsy.com

Soulful Hues:
for recycled, respun cotton yarn
soulfulhues.etsy.com

Hobledehoy:
hand-spun, hand-dyed, and spinning fibers - absolutely gorgeous shades
hobbledehoy.etsy.com

Bee's Knees Knitting:
hand-spun art yarns, spinning fiber/batts and hand knit/crochet accessories - the most vibrantly coloured.
----------
I've not actually ordered yarn from any of these sellers but they all have reviews from customers you can check out. I keep putting off buying good yarn because I'm still a beginner and want to wait till I'm competent before spending money on good yarn!

Still I hope you enjoy the selection :)

I'm not familiar with any of these etailers, though someone else might be.

I second www.kidsknits.com. This is where I buy my Dale of Norway yarns and patterns. Great service.

Another online store with a good range of yarns (Araucania to Red Heart) is here http://www.discountyarnsale.com/cat_by.cfm

I would check out KP Telemark. At a $1.99 a ball and a maximum of $3.99 shipping. I think it would work for your project.
