Can I omit the sleeves?
 

I want to knit up the Little Miss Strawberry sweater (by Jodi Snyder, in the Creative Knitting Magazine, March 2008 issue), but without the long sleeves. Any reason I can't just not do the sleeves? I was thinking I could just go around and do a crab stitch. Any other ideas?

I am not an expert, but I think you could omit the sleeves, just don't ask me how! What I want is that pattern. I went looking for the magazine, but by now the next issue is out and my library doesn't carry it. I would love to make this for my granddaughter, your's just turned out so beautiful and different, I just love it.

Yes, you could leave off the sleeves and put an edging around the armhole.

suzeeq is right. IN MOST CASES ( for the set-in sleeves) you will need to make edging around the armholes instead of the left off sleeves. Just a crab stitch won't solve a problem since a classical sweater pattern armhole usually is a little bit deeper and wider than a sleeveless one.

Crab stitch most likely will work if you are going to use it as a vest, and wear it over the thin sweater or a blouse. Other wise a strip of edging is necessary.

You could do a row or 2 of sc around, then finish with the crab stitch.
