confused about foundation row
 

Hey -

I am new to KH and fairly new to knitting. Currently working on a blanket for a friend of mine who is getting married. The very first line in the instructions have me stumped.

After casting on 131 stitches, it says to K5 rows. Foundation row (wrong side): K5, P1, etc.

Am I supposed to knit 5 rows, then begin the instructions for the Foundation row? I thought the cast on row is the foundation row.

It probably means the foundation of your pattern. (I'm not familiar with that term). However, if it says K5 rows, then you knit 5 rows, and do the foundation row after that. (That would be a wrong side, row, btw).

The foundation row in this case will be the setup row for the stitch pattern on the rest of the blanket.
